    Small Stature, Large Sound

I really wasn’t sure what to expect because I haven’t seen this or any previous versions displayed anywhere. Packaging gives the appearance of a larger unit than it actually is. It was super easy to set up. Just charge the unit and sync your devices bluetooth and you’re ready to go. So anytime you turn on the unit, it should auto sync to your device and play whatever is playing. Just beware that if you open a voice text or play a video on your device, everyone will be able to hear it. So you have to disconnect from the sync to go back to private. It’s a beautiful piece and that’s where I believe it shines. It’s more of an aesthetics type of speaker but I can’t deny that for such a small speaker, the bass response is pretty darn good. For its size, the sound is clear, responsive, and does fill the room to an extent. If you have a large open space, It’s still effective, however having another one on the opposite side would be great. It has the ability to link to compatible Sony speakers. The highs, mids and lows are great. I truly can’t complain about the sound. Sony hit the mark on that note. I wouldn’t go playing heavy metal music or anything similar on this device. That’s just my opinion. I would save that music for one of their larger speakers. But for me it sounded best with Smooth Jazz, oldies, classics, earlier to mid hip hop, pop, and other similar genres. Surprisingly enough, for its stature, the base of the unit is heavy. Which I like, so that way it’s much harder to tip over around normal instances, such as bumping into furniture moving to another location, handling when in operation and even kids. The light feature is cool, but slightly gimmicky. It’s the easiest to operate as it’s a touch feature, instead of pressing like the other buttons. You can slide your finger left or right to change intensity. Hold your finger on it to change flicker settings. I was most excited about the light music sync feature but i don’t think it actually works. I spent way too much time trying to get that to work. The light never flicked to the beat of my music. It is a nice soft campfire-ish light. It won’t light the house but this would be amazing to have if the lights ever go out. Something to note is that Sony is etched into glass so placement is important when close to walls and lit at night. You shouldn’t have the back of unit facing front anyways but I figured I should mention it. There are a few missed opportunities to make this an even better speaker… There are NO Play, Pause, Skip, Go Back buttons. Which I get because we can use our phone. However, not everyone will be attached to their phone while operating the device once they choose and set their music. If you put your phone down and are doing other activities and a song or ad comes on that you would like to skip, you have no choice but to locate your phone instead of touching the unit itself if you’re nearby. Another huge disadvantage is it is not a smart device. For a speaker with this price point it should be smart, especially if there’s lack of control buttons. I would prefer to speak to my assistant and control my music that way. “Hey _____, skip song.” There is an app that can be used alongside the speaker but I don’t see myself using it much. You are able to adjust a few things with the speaker. It’s not needed to operate. We don’t need to answer calls from this. They have a phone button but no play and pause. That baffled me. Once again, I would have to walk up to it to answer it. The buttons are located on the backside. You have to turn or pick up the unit to press the button to answer. I don’t see this feature being of much use to most people, unless it’s placed in the middle of a coffee table, nightstand or side table. It would be great to be able to control the music from my phone, but still able to use my phone to watch a quick video or listen to a message or have a call without it interrupting or broadcasting on the device. That forces me to disconnect the Bluetooth connection. Also, I have to turn on/off the unit manually not just to conserve battery, but anytime I want to listen on this device. I have other speakers I never have to touch, unless to charge, I can just play a song anytime and cast it to certain speakers. I never have to disconnect from them. I’m able to have calls and do other things on my phone without interruption. This should be able to do this. For visuals I like that the buttons are placed on the rear of the unit. However, this isn’t a speaker you want to handle all of the time. The fragile glass makes it more of a decorative piece, we shouldn’t have to constantly touch/move to operate. Implementing some sort of tap commands or feature for operating would’ve been great, IMO. The best use for this speaker is for more relaxed vibes. Saturday or Sunday mornings, eating with your beau or yourself, romantic evening were this is unobtrusive and disappears into the background. This is not a party speaker. I listed several things that should be addressed or even considered for their next release, but even with those drawbacks, I still believe it deserves 4 stars. It’s a darn good speaker. It’s loud and audible. Each sound and note is clear. The added light is a bonus, especially in dark situations. It’s a set the mood speaker. It’s easy to use. It disappears into your surroundings and it’s a great convo piece, that produces amazing 360 degree sound. I like how speakers no longer have to be a big black rectangle oddly placed, taking up space in a room. I appreciate these new speaker designs that are more like art, in a sense, or decorative accessories that seamlessly fall into place.

    Stylish speaker with good sound

This Bluetooth speaker is a very stylish product that not only looks great, but delivers very good sound. There is no assembly; I thought the glass tube might need to be attached, but that wasn't the case, the speaker was ready to go right out of the box. It was quite a bit heavier than I was expecting, but that's to keep the unit from tipping. I placed the speaker on a table in the middle of a small table in the living room and was pleased with how well it looked. It doesn't look like a speaker, but more like a modern oil lamp, so it fits right in with other home decor. Pairing was simple, and using the Sony Music Center app, I was able to control every aspect (volume, lighting, sleep timer, power) of the speaker. All of the features can also be controlled by buttons on the speaker itself, except for, surprisingly, a set of buttons for play/pause/skip ahead/skip back. The sound from this speaker is quite good, especially for the size of the unit, and the sound is equally impressive in a 360 degree circle around the speaker. Initially, I was impressed with the clarity of talk radio over the speaker, but I wasn't that impressed when playing music. However after turning on bassboost in the app and using equalizers in streaming apps, I was able to get very nice sound with good bass and crisp highs. The 'candle' feature is nice, especially as mood lighting, but as stated earlier, I would liken it more to a flame from an oil lamp than a candle. In short, I really like this speaker. It might not be for everyone, but if you're looking for a stylish speaker with good sound, that doesn't really look like a speaker and fits into the decor of any room, you should try this product.

    Unique, High Quality, Good Sound

TLDR: (that’s Too Long, Didn’t Read) This is a really novel and unique product that fills a niche for a device that creates ambience with both audio and lighting. It sounds good and looks good, but at this price point there are many other portable bluetooth speakers and separate lighting options that would work just as well if not better. If you have a lot of romantic dinners or want to set a mood, this is for you. Everyone else might want to move along. Pros: * Excellent build quality * Heavy enough base that it won’t easily tip over * Light and glass tube give it a unique appearance * Good sound quality Cons: * Tricky buttons * Missing Play/Pause button * Glass tube makes it semi-fragile * App works but is not very easy to navigate * A tad confused about what it wants to be Summary: I have many battery-powered bluetooth speakers; some are rugged for outdoor use while others are more portable for travel use. This Sony speaker is battery-powered meaning that it is not intended to be stationary or near a power outlet. It has a unique feature of a glass tube that not only is used to enhance the audio, but also light up a room with a candlelight flicker or a consistent light of various intensities. It looks like a sci-fi version of a camping lantern. Setup was as straightforward as any Bluetooth speaker these days; press the “Bluetooth” button to enable pairing and then add it to your device of choice (phone, etc.). There is a companion app from Sony to adjust settings which isn’t necessary for typical use. There are individual buttons for Power, Volume Up/Down, and answer/end calls. A capacitive strip for controlling the LED lamp’s intensity and modes is not labeled at all which is why there is a removable sticker to indicate its use. By the way, I’m not sure why this has a dedicated button for answer/ending calls as I don’t see that a typical thing you’d do with this, but that’s Sony for you. On the bottom of the unit is a button to enable/pair Bluetooth and a button to set the sleep timer. What is missing is a play/pause button. The unit is significantly heavier than one might expect; presumably to keep it from tipping over and damaging that pretty glass tube. At 2.5 pounds, it’s quite heavy. The main housing is solid metal that feels really well-made. Between that, the glass tube and the cloth surrounding the buttons, this really looks like a high-quality statement piece. I’m guessing the main intended use is as a music and light source to set the mood for a romantic dinner or fun afterwards. Sure, you can also use it a standard speaker, but again, there are so many less expensive and better sounding options out there, you’d probably only do that as an afterthought. The sound quality is quite good for its size with deep bass, nice middle and clear highs (thanks to the glass tube being used as a resonator) as one might expect at this price. Due to its shape, the sound does fill the room. You can even buy more of these and link then as stereo pairs or as multiple units in a large room. The LED is a nice gimmick but I wouldn’t buy this unit for just that. Battery life is a respectable 8 hours with the LED on bright or longer at lower volumes and without the light on. Recharging is done via USB-C on the side. BTW, Sony really should work on their Quick-Start guides. They have all the necessary information but are just not as friendly and approachable as other brands. Overall, this product is a nice speaker and has some unique features. It definitely is a conversation piece that can set the mood, but it’s not for everyone nor is it a replacement for a more “standard” portable bluetooth speaker.

    Great looking and sounding speaker

The Sony LSPX-S3 is a unique looking speaker with one of the best sound quality I've heard in a bluetooth speaker. The aesthetics of this speaker is entirely unique and a design choice that makes it stand out amongst the competition. The original S1 reminded me of old nixi tubes and this new S3 generation looks like they combined that design with a modernized lantern. This look is even more present in the lighting feature the glass tube has, which has different options and settings like simple lighting and candle flicker (my favorite is candle flicker set to match music rhythm). The only thing I wish that Sony would do to change the aesthetics is adding more color options. The brushed silver is currently the only available color and it looks great, but the lantern design makes me want to see it in copper/rose gold and matte/iron black. The sound quality on the LSPX is nothing short of magnifique. It is such a clear and crisp sound that I'm hearing things I didn't hear before in songs I've been listening to for years. It such an awesome sound quality that I've found myself running it all night just to listen to music when I sleep. The glass tube gives it the power to put out a 360° sound coverage and it fills a room. The bass is a bit underwhelming, but it has a bass boost options that you can control, however it is limited to just On and Off. I would like to see in future models more control over this setting, but it's still an awesome sound. The speaker is also able to connect to another LSPX-S3 and turn your mono to stereo sound. The speaker is easy is set up and use. The lightning, sound, and music is controllable all through the Sony Sound app. There are only two negative things I can say about the speaker. The glass tube is the center of the sound quality, but this means if it gets damaged then you compromise the speaker. The glass isn't tissue paper weak, but I don't think you could drop it from a counter onto the ground without cracking it or shattering it. So if you have pets or kids that knock stuff over alot or you're a clumsy type then be warned you might ruin your speaker by damaging the glass tube. Also the price point is pretty steep when compared to other bluetooth speakers on the market. This price point reflects the sound quality so I'm not surprised it was going be high but still it's not something that I could easily overlook. Overall, I love the speaker. It's a pricey purchase but the old saying goes "you get what you pay for" and the LSPX-S3 is a premium quality bluetooth speaker for the money.

    Modern day speaker

So you are looking for a modern day piece of art to add to your home collection? You also need a good Bluetooth speaker? Well here you go! The design is what draws people's attention but the surprise comes when you start playing music and then you just amaze your guests. Now for being a "not your ordinary wireless speaker" this thing plays music and sounds pretty good. I'm not a huge audiophile but the way you can hear voice and beats clearly is what wows me. For me, the sweet spot is at about 65 or 80 percent loudness. The bass is pretty good but still weird that the sound travels through glass. The ambient, adjustable, candle like light is a neat feature that again draws attention to your modern decorative speaker.

    Nice “Ambiance” BT Speaker

Love this little speaker. You’re not buying this for earth-shattering bass. What you’re going to get is the Sony sound quality you’d expect in a compact, portable package. The “candlelight flicker” functionality is really cool and makes a lot of sense for this unit. Great sound and solid build quality you’d expect from a Sony. We’ll be using this as a nice tabletop low profile speaker for the backyard table when we’re eating outside and want some ambient background music without having to crank up the big yard speakers. I gave it 5 stars because I’m so pleased with the sound and quality of the unit, but if I could take off a half star, I would due to the lack of a USB AC adaptor. C’mon Sony, you could have easily dropped that in the box. Not happy that I had to spend 45 minutes searching for one in my garage.

    Tiny device delivering crafted experience

    |
    Posted .

Review of Sony LSPX-S3 The tiny speaker made of sturdy metal frame accented with glass tube comes with crafted sound level. As small it is, its crisp sound but filling the space sound is noticeably can feel the crafted work behind the scene to put together high quality hardware and software. With medium level of volume can feel how it fill the space giving the feeling of surrounded. Naturally this is in the context of small speaker hence it has its own limit. But it doesn’t feel short. Moreover when it is used with different modes of lights and effects. Light effect are from flickering paired to music or stable. Its effect is toward the candle light but bit more brighter would say. Its control is done via Sony Music Center App for light effect and sound control. What found interestingly curious of the control of volume, the max volume is 31 as reaching to the max. It is the number Sony has used to indicate the maximum level that seems interesting. To remark on bluetooth, it support some of standard and profiles, as per extract from its manual (https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/lspx-s3/v1/en/contents/TP1000430936.html)l: -Supported BLUETOOTH version: BLUETOOTH standard, version 5.0 -Supported BLUETOOTH profiles: —A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile): Enables transmission and reception of high-quality music contents. —AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile): Enables volume adjustment and operations to play/pause music and skip to the beginning of the next/current track. —HSP (Headset Profile)*: Enables phone call making and mobile phone operations. —HFP (Hands-free Profile)*: Enables hands-free phone call making and mobile phone operations. Details like pairing, using application its straight forward, not much to describe. The only use case observation is where its control of volume is placed that takes some guess work although the same can be controlled with volume of the mobile device. The volume control is placed on the bottom right side with Bluettooth connection indicator icon. The speaker for what is is deliver great experience and invite to the moment more you use, It feels as one of nice to have gadget if its price is not an issue.

Unusual Glass Speaker with Great HD Sound

The LSPX-S3 Glass Sound Speaker is unusually styled for the higher end audience. Though I am not an audiophile, I find the sound produced by this glass speaker to be crisp, clear and pleasing. I have tried it Bluetooth connected to my television, stereo and computer and have witnessed the 360 degree, high definition surround sound it produces with the LDAC codec. The unusual addition of a LED lantern-type light with Candelight mode adds ambiance to a dimly lit room. Very nice.

    Candlelight Music

Aesthetically appealing, solid construction with fantastic sound. Resembling a hurricane lamp, the glass-cylinder enclosed LED provides an added touch that differentiates this speaker from all of the other cylindrical/tower Bluetooth speakers on the market. Sound quality is top notch, well balanced with good channel separation and definition. The LED feature Makes This a Winner. All settings are good but the flickering Candle Light mode is my favorite Issues: Touch Bar is difficult to use with the supplied USB-C cable plugged in. No issues when unplugged. Sensitivity is fine. Music playback stops (pauses) unless Bluetooth Connection Quality in "Other Settings" is set to "Priority on Stable Connection" Expensive. Multiple units linked together would be great for a dinner party but at $350 each...??? If the price doesn't choke you, this is a very nice speaker.

Design is amazing. Sound is adequate

    Posted .

So here is my review of the new Sony LSPX-S3. First, packaging. It has glass in it, so it needs to be protected. When it first arrived I was afraid that it was much larger than I had anticipated, but as soon as I opened the box, I realized that it is somewhat overpackaged to ensure protection during shipping. Everything in the box is recyclable as far as I can tell. That's a plus for me. What's in the box? The speaker with glass tube, a charging cable (USB-A to USB-C), and some warning and licensing stuff. It's a pretty lean system. Note that it has a charging cable, but no power brick. I hate that cost cutting trend, but it is what it is. When I first opened it, I was afraid it would be hard to figure out without any type of quick setup guide, but that was not the case at all. As soon as I turned it on, it threw a pop on my PHONE asking me if I wanted to connect to it. Surprising, but I liked it. It also showed up on my wife's phone and confused her a bit, but overall it was a nice easy setup. It seems as though whoever connects to it first becomes the host. If someone else tries to connect, it throws a popup on the host device asking if it's OK to connect the other device. If you allow it, it will default to playing whatever was clicked on most recently. For example. I started playing a song from my phone, and then had my son start playing a song from his phone. It paused my phone and started playing his music. When I hit play on my phone, it paused his phone and started playing mine. Kind of interesting. It's really easy to mess with people if you have multiple devices connected. I'm not sure I love that, but it hasn't been a problem so far. The design is really cool. It feel like a modern take on the oil lamp. The LED light is pretty fun to play around with. It can be steady or flicker like a candle. There is a wide range of brightness settings to choose from. You tap the light control touch bar to turn the LED on/off. You tap hold the light touch bar to switch between steady and flicker. You swipe side to side to change brightness. Pretty easy to figure out. It really does throw a nice light. Note that it is only a yellowish color...you can't choose light colors. I do NOT love that Sony printed their name on the glass, so if you put it near a wall in a certain orientation, you see SONY shadowed on your wall. You can spin it so that doesn't show, but it's kind of annoying, especially since they didn't print it in reverse so that the shadow would show correctly. It's a small thing, but kind of a head scratcher. The sound it pretty good for the size of the speaker. It doesn't get as loud as I had hoped, and I don't feel like the bass quite lives up to the hype, but like I said, it's pretty good for it's size. I did find that if I played with the EQ settings on my phone, I could get a pretty nice sound out of it. I understand that it handles hi-def sound, but on something that small, I'm not sure it's really noticeable. Maybe I just don't have the right music/player combination to take advantage of that feature. It does indeed provide the same sound quality in a full 360 degree circle. It's nice to use when sitting outdoors. You can put it in the middle of a group of people and it sounds the same, in both quality and volume, to everyone. The biggest drawback for me is really the combination of sound quality and price point. I feel as though for that amount of money, I could get a better sounding traditional speaker. That said, you can't beat the aesthetics of the design. It really is cool to look at, especially when chilling with a glass of wine in a dark room listening to jazz. This can definitely function as a de-stress tool for your evening...even a nice addition to a romantic dinner. If you are looking to be blown away by the sound, and don't really care about the LED lights and design, you might be disappointed. If you are looking for a very good sound with exceptional design elements, you will love it!.

    Candle safe music

For the music enthusiast who loves romance, candles and all that goes with that, this nifty device can get a room to have the right mood. I appreciate the candle flickering and the different levels of intensity of both the brightness and the speed in which the light flickers. You can maintain the light steady and use a slight touch of the finger, by swiping to the right or left of a specific location on the side of the device. It’s heavy but it should be to prevent the tube from easily tipping over and breaking. The sound is amazing and the speaker has a timer button on the bottom. The Bluetooth connection button is also located on the bottom. The volume buttons are located on the side of the device. You cannot plug your MP3 device, it is Bluetooth only. If you get another Sony Premium sound glass you can pair then up to work together. The tube illuminates a group of spiraled colors up on the ceiling which looks cool. The area where you turn on and off the candle is sensitive to touch and I have inadvertently turned off the candle just in transporting/moving the speaker to a different location. To change setting from flicker to steady, you simply touch and hold with your finger the area on the side (which initially has a tiny white removable sticker). Once you change from steady to flicker or flicker to steady, you can then swipe on same area to the right for a brighter light if on steady, or lower light if you swipe to the left…..same with the flicker candle option, while it’s on flicker option, you can increase the intensity by swiping with your finger lightly to the right or left. I would recommend for someone who loves to listen to music with low light in a room, the romantic, or anyone looking to relax while listening to tunes.

I own a lot of Sony product because they have quality and feature filled electronic. This is a small but powerful speaker. The light encasing unfortunately is plastic so it feels average but the base is solid metal so it produces real deep base and strong clear sound. It can be fully control via Sony's music app which makes it very convenient. The sound is truly 360 or multidirectional so there is no weaker sound from any angle. The battery lasts long... a full day and night.

    Different unique look

I had high hopes for this as it has a unique look and I had hoped for the price point it would have superior sound as well. I am a little disappointed in both. It looks much bigger in the photo. I am a little concerned that it may be quite fragile. It is quite heavy and appears that it would be stable but I am not about to knock it over to find out. As far as the sound goes it has a broad spectrum of sound but it lacks some punch. Even when you download the app and and use the enhanced bass. Speaking of the app, it is quite easy to manage and use and has many useful features for the speaker. The light in the glass area is not as elaborate or vibrant as described online. I have not had the opportunity to use it for a phone call at this time so I can't comment on that feature. It is a conversation piece due to the different look. I think it would look good in a very modern setting due to it's shape and look. Battery life does seem to be as advertised and it does come with a nice looking USB-C cord but no power block so you do have to supply your own. Overall I feel it is nice but not as nice as it should be for the price point.

    Mood Setter

    Posted .

The Sony LSPX-S3 is a great product for setting the mood of any type of relaxation. I will begin by saying, this item is aesthetically pleasing to look at. It's not bulky, and it being rounded gives it a somewhat modern antique look. Setup was extremely easy. I went into my phone settings/Bluetooth and then powered on this speaker. Almost instantly upon the speaker powering on it showed up on my phone. In a matter of seconds the two devices were paired. Using the Sony Music Center App, I was able to completely control the function of the LSPX-3X. The reason I was drawn to this item is due to its features. Such as, it allows me the opportunity to set a mood without using multiple items. If I want a simple candle lit dinner with music or to run a soothing bath for my spouse with dim lighting and soft music, the Sony allows me that versatility. The sound produced by the LSPX-S3 is exceptional and the control that you have over the light it emits, lends to a very pleasing experience. I will say if your looking for a mind blowing sound experience, this is not the item; although with the ability to link multiple speaker via the Sony App its a game changer. I'm really enjoying this Sony product and it makes setting the mood in any soothing situation all the better. I 100% recommend the Sony LSPX-S3!

Sound quality is fine for a wireless, Bluetooth speaker and the portability of having on the dinner table, or the coffee table or anywhere in the house at any time is awesome. Currently listening on my desk in the dark and it really puts out a nice bit of ambient lighting. I love how it can flicker like a candle or stay solid. Changing flicker or regular brightness is simply done with a drag of the finger across a little area on the front. Switching from solid to flicker is done but just holding your finger on that part for 2 seconds – Very cool!! Tested a Bluetooth phone call and it went perfect. I put phone far away from the speaker and the caller could hear me fine so it does have 2 way calling on it. Audio quality was excellent. 8 hours of wireless charge is pretty good in my opinion. That gives plenty of use for an indoor speaker. Recharges with a supplied USB C cable. Still a little pricey but it really sounds great. Sony did a fantastic job with this 3rd version of their glass speaker. Looking forward to many modern candlelight dinners with this 

I was really hoping for some good things with this speaker. It is a portable bluetooth speaker. It is heavy enough to be sturdy but not bulky. The candlight feature is sort of neat. The sound that comes from this speaker is not all that great, especially considering some of the other portable "smart" speakers on the market. (This is NOT a smart home speaker) The shape supposedly helps the sound "fill the room" It does sound equally ok wherever you happen to be in relation to the speaker. The control knobs are sort of hard to see and utilize. It easily paired with my MacBook. However, I found that I was not able to control the sound of the speaker from the computer I had to adjust it on the speaker itself, an unusual find on a bluetooth device I think. You can control the light that is emitted with a flick of your finger which also seems kind of odd. There is a SONY music app that you can control the speaker from on your iPhone or other smart device. It does consistently play the full range, whether it is high notes or low notes, or jamming bass this little speaker will put it out. It does not sound distorted when the volume is loud. Unfortunately I found that this speaker just underwhelms. Fully charged the speaker played for about an hour before it needed to be recharged.

Love the sound, love the ambient lighting with the ability to match the flickering to music, keep the light solid, or just have it lightly flicker like a candle from within the Sony app. The bass boost provides plenty of extra lows to compliment the crisp highs. Really great crystal clear sound. It won't blow the doors off the neighbors house but if you aren't looking for deafening sound and prefer quality and a cool design that will look cool in any space, this is it. The flickering is just so peaceful and this is definitely my new favorite evening chill speaker and light. LOVE IT! Very creative and very well made.
