Description
Features
PrintShield™ finish
Resists smudges and fingerprints. The specialized coating for stainless steel is easy to clean with just water and a soft cloth so you can spend more time cooking and less time cleaning up.
Counter-depth design
Allows this freestanding refrigerator to fit nearly flush with surrounding cabinetry to offer a built-in look and provide more room to move in your kitchen.
Preserva® food care system
Two independent cooling systems create a dedicated refrigeration unit to help keep food fresh longer and a separate system for frozen food.
The FreshFlow™ air filter minimizes odors, while the Produce Preserver helps delay over-ripening (based on commonly purchased produce).
In-Door-Ice® system
Adds interior room in the refrigerator with an ice bin that mounts on the inside left door to provide extra space on the shelves.
LED lighting
Uses less energy than incandescent bulbs. Multiple lights are purposefully placed throughout the refrigerator and freezer, making it easy to find items at a glance.
Measured water fill
Displays and automatically dispenses water in ounces, cups, or liters. You can choose from three programmed settings to pour a measured amount. Two custom presets can be programmed for items you frequently fill, such as a coffee pot or water bottle.
Clear door bins with metallic accents
Allow you to see labels right through the bins, giving you visibility and easy access to your condiments and other items. Each bin is removable, making it perfect for carrying items to the counter.
Exterior ice and water dispenser
Designed to support food preparation.

Q: QuestionKitchen Aid 22.6 Cu. Ft. side-by-side refrigerator Vegetables in bottom drawer are freezing. Drawers removed and find 1 inch of ice build up behind drawers. Any ideas on why this is happening?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Had the same problem, also food above began to spoil or get moldy quickly. Called BestBuy, but since we didn’t pay for Geek Squad & it was over 30 days, they told us to call KitchenAid. Took us awhile to get someone (held on phone for over an hour), but when technician came out, he said there was no drain hole. This was a defective unit. He thawed out the ice, but said that it should be sent back. I notified BestBuy that they were selling defective appliances without checking them out. KitchenAid picked up the fridge & refunded our money. We definitely believe that both BestBuy & KitchenAid know about this problem.

Q: QuestionCan this refrigerator replace a 12 year old built in Kitchenaid Refrigerator 36 inch with Ice & water dispenser without any modifications to the cabinetry?
Asked by Replacement.
- A:Answer My frig was 12 years old. I had the geek guy from Best Buy come and measure. It's free service. At first he said it would not fit. I pressed him to look closer and remeasure. It does fit. I can hardly put a piece of paper on either side but it does fit where the old frig was. I kept my old refrigerator to be sure. For $20 they will move your old frig to the garage also. Hope this helps.

Q: QuestionDoes the ice maker make crushed ice, besides the cubes, as does my current older KitchenAid?
Asked by JayLo.
- A:Answer Yes. You may select regular ice cubes...which are actually a bit small, or crushed ice.

Q: QuestionWhat is the gray plastic piece that was taped to the inside of my refrigerator.? It is about 1 1/2 inches x 7 1/2 inches , a snap in plate.
Asked by KAGG.
- A:Answer The grey plastic piece that comes with your refrigerator is a filler plate if your fridge does not come with the Fresh Flow Air Filter system. I Googled the part number and found it on this schematic drawing.

Q: QuestionIs the Kitchenaid counter-depth refrigerator 6366742 quieter than Whirlpool model588FIHZ?
Asked by pam.
- A:Answer We've had ours for just over a year. It is very quiet. We'd had the 'sister' KitchenAid to this newer model; both counter-depth, pretty much without issue (the earlier KitchenAid lasted 10 years, and quite suddenly, the compressor died and we needed to replace the frig very fast or lose $$ in the frozen goods inside). To us, they are the same Whirlpool/KitchenAid quality that we expect for our money. The only complaints we have about this new model: it seems to have a smaller interior space; I can only imagine that the insulated walls have been bolstered; the freezer also seems to be smaller. The other design complaint is the lack of shelf support options that are molded into the side walls. Three drawers (different depths) must be at the bottom, and three shelves for the upper portion only have four shelf supports options. The door bins: there are two wider bins for the upper and the covered, butter bin at top. There are two narrow bins seated across from the drawers when closed. There are lots of notches molded in the door so you have flexibility to accommodate the different heights of condiments, milk cartons, etc. I'm finding I could use another bin to utilize more refrigerator space, but can't find it (yet). I have my own question about that on this forum. The ice maker has worked beautifully and when it fills and ice drops, is probably the noisiest part of its operation.

Q: QuestionThere's a wall on the left side of my space How much room do I need to the left of the fridge to allow the freezer door to open to 90 degrees Important: if I can only open the freezer door to 90 degrees, will I be able to get the freezer drawers out?
Asked by timr07.
- A:Answer The counter-depth option allows an even profile with the counters which is awesome, but in my experience, getting drawers out has been an issue. Mine is in the corner so there's a wall to the right and a dishwasher on the left, and both have restricted getting the drawers out. However, opening the doors enough to get the drawers open to get stuff out (90 degrees) has worked fine. I couldn't do w/o the counter-depth option bc it's a small kitchen. For the occasional times when I have to remove the drawers I've had to bring the whole refrigerator out from the back wall, then push it back.

Q: QuestionMy area has very hard water. Does the filter on this model also filter the water to the ice maker, or just the water dispenser? I’m wondering if I need to install an in-line water filter just for the ice maker.
Asked by Victoria.
- A:Answer I think the the filter treats both drinking and ice water. However, you should check this with KitchenAid. However, I don't think the filter removes hard water ions.
