Economical, significant and possible necessary!
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.I reside in a four family apartment building, we have never had any issues with missing packages. However, we have had issue's with a few trespassers within the hallways and i had to escort them out. For this reason i made the purchase of this door bell, which acts as a camera when someone passes by its set to automatically record untill all movement has ceased. The instructions are clear, simple and i had it set up and working within twenty minutes or less. I love the wide angle on the doorbell, it really does a great job at catching all the details nice and clear. If someone is hanging around where they shouldn't you can speak to them through the speaker on the unit itself, it works clear enough for the person on the other end to make out what your saying. The notifications are communicated instantly to your cell phone once the motion sensor detects movement. The doorbell has two methods of instructions it can either run on two AA batteries or you can permanently install the unit using your doorbell wiring, but you may have to upgrade your transformer to one with a higher voltage so the camera works as efficiently as it can. I know this because i had to perform the upgrade for a friend who had issues with his unit not working properly untill the upgrade was made. Its not too difficult but some electrical comprehension helps or you can just turn to youtube. Well i guess that wraps it up, you get about two weeks or so before your trial period ends and you have to subscribe in order to keep your history and other options going. Would i personally purchase this unit again? Yes, without a doubt! We have children on the premises and we need to make it safe for everyone!

Blink Video Doorbell
||Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Works as described. Getting the backplate on was a nightmare and the videos online are no help and, neither was CS. They sent another plate thinking it was defective but it wasn't and, the bp was different. When I called, the representative was not very kind. The next conversation was with a supervisor. With family help, the original bp finally made the connection and I was able to mount it to the anti-theft door mount (purchased separately) and complete the setup, which was very easy. Be sure to get the Sync Module at the same time. You'll pay less and save yourself in the long run. You don't need a subscription w/the module but it's minimal if you choose it. Overall, I'm happy w/the purchase and the peace of mind it brings me.

Peace of Mind for the Price!!!
|Posted .Amazon has done it again. They have created a Doorbell with all the bells and whistles at an affordable price. The Blink Video Doorbell + Sync Module 2 can be used anywhere. This doorbell can be wired using your existing wiring for your old doorbell or can run on batteries. Now, Blink an Amazon company, claims that depending on your settings the batteries can last up to 2 years, and if that is true that is pretty amazing. The ability to use this doorbell on batteries is a great option and allows you to use this anywhere such as your RV’s, and back doors. The Doorbell features a 1080p HD day and night camera, plus two-way audio, and chime alert. The unit can be linked up with Amazon Alexa, unfortunately I have a google system setup, so I was not able to test out that feature, for in home notifications and Alexa can alert you when someone is at your door. If you have read my other doorbell reviews, you know that I hate subscription services for doorbells and I am glad that Blink gave us the option to save the video and notifications locally using the Blink Sync Module 2. You will need a USB storage which is not included, but that can be used to save your videos and notifications for later. You also have the option to sign up for the cloud service if you like but in my opinion that is a waste of money, and I would rather get the sync module combo and use that instead. The setup process for the doorbell is very simple. You will need to download the Blink app and create an account. Once you have done that you need to press the “+” button on the top right corner of the app and the setup process will guide you through the rest of the process and the same applies to both the doorbell and the sync module because you will have to add them both separately. In the box you will receive everything you will need to setup the doorbell. 1 Doorbell 1 Sync Module 2 2 AA batteries 1 Corner Mount 1 USB Cable 1 Power adapter 1 Case opening tool Overall, I could not find anything that I was not happy with about this doorbell. From the price to the picture quality, no subscription fees, local storage options, battery life, and the local storage option. You can’t beat that. If you are in the market for a doorbell but don’t want to spend a lot of money, give this one a shot. You will not be disappointed.

A solid doorbell/video alternative
|Posted .I needed a doorbell, so I opted to get this Blink video door bell with the sync module. The sync module is needed to connect the different blink products to. It is essentially a base station. I've been extremely happy with the performance, quality, and ease of installation with this system. With easy diagrams available from Blink and on their app, setup was a total breeze and I had my doorbell installed and working in 15 minutes. I chose to go the battery route, as I don't have a way to hard wire it. It comes with 2 lithium AA batteries. It mounts with a couple screws and gives you the option to use an included angle mount if you need it, which I ended up using. It went together very easy and the backing plate of the doorbell does come with a seal so water stays out of the battery compartment. Once you have the Blink app installed, it guides you step by step to get your doorbell set up and get the sync module set up to the internet and get your camera linked to it. It was a very easy set up. The only tool you will need is a phillips screwdriver and maybe a power drill with a phillips bit. Setting up the camera has many options. The doorbell really doesn't though. You can set up motion detection, or just have the camera record once the doorbell is rung. On batteries, I opted to just have it record when the doorbell is pressed. You can set activity zones and night vision settings. It records 1080p video, and you can also take pictures on the app with an easy button press. You can also select different record times and how frequently it is triggered. As far as the doorbell goes, it chimes at the doorbell itself, but only chimes on your phone that your logged into the Blink app on. I wish it would chime at the sync module, but on the phone is fine. It does not chime though if you are on a call or volume is down. It has notification options, but will send you a notification that your doorbell was rang and send you to the blink app where you can review the video. It all works very smoothly and am pretty satisfied with the whole thing, and its nice to finally have a door bell. For the price it is well worth it. One of the only other things I don't like is that it won't let you take screenshots of the video for "privacy reasons". I feel I should be able to screenshot my cameras. Regardless, I would still recommend

Good Enough Quality
|Posted .FYI: 1) I do not use Alexa or other in-home Smarthome products, so I cannot comment on the usefulness of syncing with those devices. My review is purely from a Video Doorbell standpoint sending to my mobile device. 2) I do not have a pre existing wired doorbell and therefore used the wireless option. The attractive price of the Blink Doorbell + Sync Module 2 is not without its praise. Understand this is not a high-end Wireless/Wired Video Doorbell, but it's also not some cheap holiday season tech either. Blink has been slowly building its reputation for their security cameras and this setup definitely opens up the possibility for easy expansion with “good-enough” quality for your needs. Also, you need to know that some of the features are locked behind a pay-wall (ie. subscription). Out-of-the-box, you can hook this up, sans subscription and get a basic home surveillance setup with this Doorbell and Blink’s Outdoor/Indoor cameras. It is a compelling offer, with some limitations, but I cannot deny the cost-to-value is quite high considering the buy in. The biggest limitation is access to the stored clips, while feasible without a subscription, but definitely not a quick operation. However, the subscription plan is stupid cheap and should be a serious consideration depending on your needs. As a video doorbell with basic features, it is fine, and will get the job done showing you who is at your door and what they want. Saving clips/images is where it gets down to the differences between the cloud subscription and the local storage via the Sync Module 2. I’m not going to hash that out Blink lays all that out in their FAQ’s. So, be an informed consumer and see if works for you. I do have some Pro Tips about the device installation I mention and some specs that are not so apparent, but overall I can recommend this setup and I myself am seriously considering expanding the setup. -Setup: This is not apparent, but you need to setup the Sync Module 2 first with this setup. IF the Sync Module 2 will not connect to your network, most likely it is because your password has special characters !-@-$: etc. (READ THIS)The current firmware CANNOT use these characters and it will fail to connect. The newest firmware fixes this, but you cannot update the device until it is connected to a network. A few options you have at this point...1) Change your router password temporarily (who wants to update all their connected devices?) until it is updated 2) Create a Guest Network without those special characters in the password (my choice) or 3) Use your phone's Mobile Hotspot to set up. Once the firmware is updated, you can then change the Wi-Fi Network the Sync Module 2 uses and continue setup of the Video Doorbell. -Local Storage is best formatted for exFAT for Windows and is a must for MacOS. 256GB is the max storage size (I would not use an external HDD. Possibly an SSD would be fine, but Flash Drive is in all the literature). 256GB is WAY more than enough for the max 10 devices the Sync Module 2 can handle, so for just a Doorbell, it would take forever to fill up. FAT32 will work, but I did notice that in the Blink App there was not a tab for it in the Clip View, Cloud was the only option. I reformatted to NTFS and when I reinserted the Flash Drive to the Sync Module 2 the Blink App asked to Format Drive...which it defaults to exFAT (no option given in the app). The Local tab in the Clip View was now present. -Installation: Attaching the doorbell to the mount...sucks. The waterproofing membrane keeps the device from sliding so it requires some force to slide it into place. The “click” sound also does not offer much confidence in your achievement, so it can make you think it is not attached. However, when it is...it is. There is no stealing this thing without a hammer or similar tool required to dismount it from the mounting bracket. -Documentation: it was a little underwhelming how little info there was in the box that was needed to get started. Even the Quick Start Guide was nothing of the sort, rather the “Use and Limitations”. There are some printed instructions on the inside packaging cover for App download instructions, then the rest of the setup process is via the App. -Camera/Audio Quality: Specs say 1080P...maybe because that is what all the cool kids are doing these days? Sure doesn’t feel like it though. Downloaded quality the file is 1280x720 at 24 frames per second. Not bad quality, just not sure where the 1080P comes into play there. I did find that the camera is a bit picky on the lighting scene. Too much sun and it washes out too little sun and the face is too dark. Night Vision with a door light on, washes out the face too. Audio for the guest is great quality with no feedback. On my end, it wasn’t the best and the lag is pretty bad. Thankfully you don’t have to hold down the button for two-way audio, just don’t look at the vide when trying to have a conversation. I found this was the same no matter if I was on my network or I was away from home on LTE/5G Cellular. What is hard to get access to though is Camera Snapshots. I still cannot find where they go. -Motion Detection: Having Zoning capabilities and even privacy settings are huge for such a value product. There are plenty of settings to dial in your camera for your location and get the alerts you care about. -Subscription: In order to use a subscription plan, it is required to link to your Amazon account. You do not have to link to your Amazon for local storage only. You are given this option upon setup. In no way is this setup perfect. It has some software glitches and some hoops to jump through. The Blink App is simple and easy to navigate, but at the end of the day it does work. I found the App Alerts to be very quick and the time to access the Live View was pretty quick, so no complaints there. I keep going back to the value of this system and have to stress that while the image quality is not the same of higher end products (build quality is excellent) the buy in price and feature set it offers all while giving a local storage option cannot be overlooked. I can easily recommend this product for your needs. My 3 Star rating is due to the not quite 1080P claim, hoops to setup out-of-the-box with the password requirements, and the lag in audio on user end, and why is it so hard to find the Photo Snapshots (videos are easy to find) and so included with this last gripe, instruction set could be better.

Q: QuestionIf I buy the Blink video doorbell with the Sync Module 2 then it will record video without a subscription, correct? Will the Sync 2 also capture video from another Blink outdoor camera?
Asked by Donnie.
- A:Answer Hi there, The sync module itself does not provide storage, but if you plug a USB flash drive into it then clips will get stored there. That will also work for the outdoor cameras. If you don't use a Subscription for cloud storage or a USB for local storage you won't be able to record videos with either device.
