Buying an all-in-one washer dryer combo.

Is a washer-dryer combo your best choice?

A washer-dryer combo is a washer and dryer combined in a single "washer-sized" unit, containing a front-loading washer as well as a condenser dryer. In addition to the benefit of a smaller footprint, an all-in-one washer dryer allows you to wash and dry with one command: you can put your unwashed clothes in the machine before you go to work and return home to fully washed and dried clothes. Of course, you can also use it as just a washer or as just a dryer. Generally, a washer dryer combo will have a smaller capacity than conventional washers and dryers, and a full wash/dry cycle might take slightly longer, but you may find the convenience of a one-step washing/drying process outweighs any potential drawbacks.

A compact washer dryer combo is great for those who reside in a space-challenged home, apartment, condo or cabin, or in any living situation where every inch counts. Plus, a combo machine may suit you if you normally line-dry your clothes, but still want a dryer to quickly dry extra towels for company, or complete a last-minute load of laundry before going on vacation. You might also want a clothes steamer to remove wrinkles, especially if you regularly launder many home textiles, like curtains, drapes and tablecloths.

Bringing home your all-in-one washer-dryer.

A good rule of thumb for new appliance delivery and installation is "measure twice and install once," since you need your new appliance to fit through all your doorways on the way to its perfect spot. If you instead choose a top-loading washer, you should allow 20" of clearance for easy loading and unloading. Expect to accommodate an extra 1"–3" on the sides so air can circulate, along with 4"–6" at the back for the washer hoses, hookups and cords, and/or dryer plug, if needed in an older residence.

Most all-in-one washer/dryers are designed as a ventless washer/dryer combo, so there is no need to provide for external dryer venting. The dryer function provides non-vented condenser drying, which is essentially a hot-air vacuum.

You may also want to include a laundry pedestal in your plans (and your measurements) to raise your washer dryer combo to a more comfortable height, lessening your need to bend or stoop to retrieve each load, as well as providing extra drawer storage. Geek Squad can not only deliver your all-in-one washer dryer, but also provide all the appliance installation assistance you need to get your new appliance in place and working right.
